For us, NOR/MA GRAND is the place to experiment with Scandinavian lifestyle meaning both the physical space and the opportunities it offers.
The building itself reflects Northern simplicity – with its minimalist, spacious, bright interior and huge glass doors opening onto the park, we can easily embody the basic values of Scandinavian life: simplicity, naturalness, attention to the moment and our surroundings, as attention is not diverted by overthought interiors.
When the minimalism of the space begins to affect the arriving guest, we strive to delight everyone and truly embrace the slow-down through the enjoyment of new-wave coffee or Nordic flavors, as well as through various themed events.
Specialty coffee and natural wine also stand as endorsements of naturalism, but this simplicity is also evident in our food. We believe in the power and care of nature, so we prefer to use ingredients in their original form, highlighting their characteristics. We work with many typical Nordic ingredients, such as salmon or fermented products which are necessary due to the long winters there, as well as popular spices like cardamom and saffron.
From the beginning, we have tried to showcase Scandinavian holidays and rituals, which we believe can be beneficially incorporated into our everyday lives. One of these is Midsommar, the celebration of Midsummer, when traditionally Swedish families and friends gather to celebrate light and brightness, something we often take for granted. In our interpretation of this festival, we came up with a collaboration with several artisan bakeries from Budapest, we set a large community table and also run a whole-day flower wreath workshop. With this feast we want to highlight that even the smallest and most natural things are worth pausing for, and it’s best to do this together.
When it comes to wintertime, the Lagom Advent at us is also intended to bring this chill. According to lagom, it’s important not to overcomplicate things, to believe in good enough instead of perfect, and to find joy in the moment. We are especially prone to forget these during the Christmas season, yet if anything, Christmas should truly be about these values. That’s why during the Advent period, we encourage everyone even more to slow down, for what we offer small surprises and programs, such as a gingerbread decorating or flower workshops.
If you’re fast enough, you can get your place on our Julbord – Christmas dinner evening, where guests can enjoy Scandinavian-inspired dishes around a festive communal table.
However, we like to create hygge moments not only during the holidays but also on weekdays. Whether it’s a Saturday morning with our Bread’n’Breakfast live music brunch or a weekday evening leisuring with our Nature after work concept to settle down and switch off from work.
Literatur dinners are real audience favorites at NOR/MA GRAND. On these evenings not only the hours spent with the invited writer but also the menu inspired by their work is a unique experience. György Dragomán and Krisztián Nyári were our first invited guests, and for upcoming events, it’s worth keeping an eye on our venue and online platforms.
